An Austrailian English Teacher in South Korea Threatens to Infect His Girlfriend with AIDS
In 2007, an Australian man got arrested for illegally working as an English teacher in South Korea. He previous got fired from his work for child molestation.
When his Korean girlfriend suggested that they break up, he threatened her that he would infect her with AIDS.
Wow, this is low. What a shameful story to all other hard-working good English teachers in Korea!
Wow, this is low indeed. Good thing the guy didn't actually have AIDS and was just trying to scare the girl. But it's a shameful story.
The criminal transmission of AIDS is a serious crime. I'm sure you were as pleased as I was that Korean police caught "Mr. Jeon," the Korean taxi driver who the Korean press said had sex with "countless women" without telling them he had AIDS - and video taping it as well. Mr. Jeon was tried, convicted and sentenced 18 months to prison for attempting to transmit the AIDS virus to Korean women.
Of course, none of this reflects poorly on the Korean people who all denounced the actions of Mr. Jeon and worked hard to bring him to justice.
A lot like the foreign teachers who helped to catch you Mr. Swirl. Dave's ESL cafe was instrumental in identifying you when you were hiding as "Vico". After foreign police successfully unswirled your face, foreign English teachers helped bring you to justice.
I don't know whether this Aussie man in Korea was really HIV-positive or not. Regardless, threatening someone with AIDS is just unacceptable. I think the Korean girl friend should have practiced safe sex with him (or with anyone if not in a committed relationship with her). But who knows... the guy might have insisted on barebacking.
I used to check out Dave's ESL cafe but not anymore. I found the site to be full of people just complaining and leaving racist comments. I guess that's why Mr. Swirl left his trails there. Don't get me wrong, though... the site still has some useful info on teaching/living in Asia.
I don't know much about how foreign English teachers actually helped the Interpol catch Christopher Neil. I guess I will have to read more on that for my biography.
